Tenerife sets a fantastic scene for any holiday choice and choosing a reliable and trusted hotel is a valuable part of whether your vacation will live up to your expectations or end in a ‘holiday from hell’. One of the main reasons why this blog site was put together, was to pass over trusted information on where to eat, visit and of course, select your hotel; all based on actual visits to these destinations, personally by me.
Let me start you off on the right foot and firstly introduce you to Adrian Hotels who rank extremely high on my list as a hotel choice. Why? because every little detail is carefully planned, ensuring their visitors receive the comfort and personal attention which is needed for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
My choice for this blog post is Hotel Colón Guanahani which is one of three accommodation choices which belong to Adrian Hotels chain. It is situated in a beautiful location of Adeje and only two minutes walk to the beach. The hotel is ‘Adults Only’ therefore visitors must be 16+ and dress code applies for the evening meal. For those travellers who prefer this specific type of hotel choice, this 4-star accommodation will not disappoint you.
Set on the corner of the avenue, there are plenty of shops close by with some bars and restaurants. Location is perfect and you will be privileged to be close to two stunning beaches which are Fanabé and El Duque. You have the choice to just relax by the pool in Colón Guanahani, soaking in the all year round sun or there is plenty to see when venturing out of this hotel.
Now, let me show you inside the hotel and see you what you can expect to receive from the immaculate Colón Guanahani.
A compact reception with quaint eating area facilities
As I walked into the reception, it was peaceful, small but very well laid out. When I say small, this is because other hotels have much larger receptions but Colón Guanahani is compact and maintaining the grandeur appearance with beautiful colonial themed style features and lovely furnishings. The grey, neutral tones appealed to me as it was fresh, clean and classy. The contrast of the pale salmon colour (or light terracotta) reception, balanced well with the neutral tones. Immediately I felt invited and relaxed when walking into this reception and I was pretty excited to see what this hotel could offer their visitors.
Designed for comfort
As I walked past the reception, the large ‘living room’ style area, hosts plenty of comfortable seating and tables, acting as a relaxing and chill out place to sit. The furnishings have been selected to impress and for those visitors who like the finer things in life, there has been no capped budget in this hotel as you will have comfort at the heart of your stay.
This area of the hotel was impressive, stylish and cool, ideal for mid-morning coffee, reading the newspaper or a book, away from the scorching sun which at times can be a little too much for some holiday-makers.
Designed for privacy
What I really like about Adrian Hotels is that design plays one of the most important roles in their style. With this comes thought, planning and personal touches, therefore, I knew that the overall design of the hotel would be geared specifically to the visitors who chose to stay here. Just like their sister hotel which is directly across the road (Hotel Jardines de Nivaria), the design of the swimming pools has been carefully planned to allow privacy. With the main pool situated on the ground floor, you will find the second pool area on the rooftop, looking out to the views of the sea.
I am aware of other hotels where the public can have visual sight of you sunbathing as they stroll by but both Colón Guanahani and Jardines de Nivaria offer you 100% privacy around the pool. Their private and secluded layout designed pools are really stunning with luscious tropical plants, shrubs and beautiful coloured flowers, offering you a sense of a healthy and relaxing environment.
With the backdrop of the mountains in view and the sun often shining through the blue skies, the combination of these two natural beauties mirror well with this neatly designed hotel. There are no large multiple high raised floors to look at, only pretty blue and white balconies, dressed with flowers to ensure your view is picture perfect.
Spacious bedrooms in a colonial theme
As I made my way through the hotel and up to the bedroom floor level, the compact and cosy hotel was spacious and well laid out. The blue-themed doors continued throughout the hotel and when opening the bedroom door, well once again, it did not disappoint me.
I have got to know the style and standards of Adrian Hotels so I knew it would be nice. Colón Guanahani was very impressive, especially their bedroom as the Superior Room was very spacious with a fabulous double door walk-in wardrobe. Great to hang up all your clothes and store your suitcases, leaving the room free from holiday clutter.
All Superior rooms overlook the pool and Standard rooms look out into the main streets.
The large comfortable beds in the bedroom were encased with the blue colonial features, reminding me not to forget the theme of the hotel.
Bathroom in style
With only the bathroom to check out, I was hoping that this room did not disappoint me. How many hotels have you stayed at and the bathroom was just OK? For me, this spoils the holiday experience as I want to take my shower and feel fresh, clean and relaxed.
As I entered the bathroom, I suddenly caught a glimpse of my big smile in the bathroom mirror. This room did not disappoint me at all, in fact, it was perfectly finished off in dark tiles and contrasting neutral colours. Loved it!
Food to impress
Colón Guanahani has two restaurants which offer visitors a buffet style selection, for breakfast and dinner. La Pérgola offers light snacks or an amazing á la carte menu and this was my selection for the lunch. Sitting in the shade around by the pool, the pretty little area of the open front restaurant offers lovely views of the pool and hotel area. Again, privacy guaranteed and tranquillity offered to set the scene. I was relaxed, comfortable and enjoying the moment.
My choice from the á la carte menu was the garlic prawns, local cheese and fresh salmon, served by friendly and polite staff. It wasn’t difficult to see why couples chose this hotel and sitting here enjoying our lunch with other visitors, only added to the relaxing moment of enjoying fine food while letting the day go by.
Tucking into my food was just a dream! As we say in the UK, ‘Hats off to the chef’ as he was outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection and far superior to what I have tasted back home in any English restaurant. Simply delicious and worth a visit even if you are not staying at the hotel. Really, if you are in Tenerife and looking for a nice lunch, call into Colón Guanahani and book a table by the pool for a special lunch. Amazing gastronomy.
For visitors who like to indulge in some spa treatment, Colón Guanahani offers a wonderful Anti-Stress Wellness facility. This allows visitors to take some time out and enjoy a massage, removing the stress of day-to-day troubles.
For people who suffer muscular pain from sports activities, the Anit-ache Wellness facility will provide you with a deeper treatment. There is even a facility for a massage, to help you maintain the body and mind. Ayurveda Wellness brings harmony to keep both mind and body balance and certainly worth investigating.
This hotel sets its standards high and has won the Gold Travelife Award which is an internationally recognised award scheme for hotels and other tourism-related businesses which have attained high environmental management standards. Once again, a nice touch to show Adrian Hotels care about their visitor’s wellbeing and the environment.
To wrap this summary up for Colón Guanahani hotel, my opinion is that it oozes style, quality with up-to-date decór. Spotlessly clean and food to die for! You can expect to receive FREE Wifi and safe (which some other hotels will charge for this), TV, telephone, hairdryer, mini-bar (extra cost), bathrobes and slippers. Oh and not forgetting the air-con which is a must if you are visiting Tenerife.
A super little hotel and ideal for couples who are seeking an Adult Only accommodation in Tenerife. Quiet location yet plenty to do if you take a little walk for local facilities. Better still, check out their website and find out what you can book up in advance and plan your holiday to suit your taste and budget.
I truly loved my time here and it is really great to see such a high standard maintained by the staff, quality of food and the overall accommodation of Colón Guanahani. Well done Adrian Hotels as your style, thought and visitor’s planning has certainly paid off!
Please note: This hotel is not suitable for those who are seeking a nightlife lifestyle or for young partygoers.
