The Diversity Of Los Cristianos

From the late 1970’s up until today, Los Cristianos has been a popular choice for tourists heading to Tenerife. It has been substantially developed over the years and has become the main port for ferries, scheduled to cross to the other islands. A quieter resort than it’s neighbour Las Americas, it offers a variety of things to do, places to stay and great excursions, making this an ideal choice of location for all ages.

Hotel History

Back in the history books, Hotel Oasis Moreque was one of the first holiday locations built in Los Cristianos in 1968. Hollywood stars Elizabeth Taylor and Sir Richard Burton were known to stay at this hotel prior to the area being developed as it is today. What this tells us, even though the area was isolated from tourist attractions with just a fishing port and beach, it still attracted the famous names for its beauty and tranquillity. The hotel was one of the first luxury tourist accommodations to be built in the south of Tenerife. The name changed 20 years ago and is now known as H10 Big Sur, a 4-star, adult only accommodation choice for those wanting a more relaxing and children free holiday.

The chain of hotels has developed over the years in Tenerife and has expanding to allow tourists a choice of 6 hotels on the island. All 4-star ratings and situated in Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje, Playa Las Americas and Puerta De La Cruz in the north. You can find out more on their website H10 Hotels

Ferries to La Gomera

Since the 1970’s, Los Cristianos has endured a wealth of planning, development and tourists over the years. The fishing port has transformed into a harbour for ferries, offering an array of opportunities to tourists visiting Tenerife or heading out to the likes of the island of La Gomera island.

From Los Cristianos to San Sebastian in La Gomera, there are two ferry companies which dominate the waters, transporting locals and tourists from one island to another. The Naviera Armas and Fred Olsen Express offer frequent crossings onboard their vessels, making the journey quick and comfortable.

Armas offers to cross up to 3 times per day and a sailing time of about 1 hour where Fred Olsen Express is scheduled 4 times per day with a duration of 50 minutes. The combination of both services allows passengers a choice and timetable of around 49 sailings per week, which is really a great opportunity for anyone to hop on and explore La Gomera.

If you are a cruise type of person and you wanted to explore the Canary island via this route, Fred Olsen Cruises offers some great discounts. Their cruise liner stops as part of the journey at Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz in Tenerife, allowing you to take lunch or a few hours in the wonder north of Tenerife.

A holiday needs to be filled with happiness and memories to look back on. Making memories is what life is all about and Tenerife offers you plenty of opportunities to do this.

Excursion Experience

My memorable excursion experience to see the whales and dolphins were on board the Peter Pan with Neptune Sea Company. This is a great experience for families, couples or singles and you will feel completely comfortable with the friendly and highly experienced staff.

The 3 hour trip with a light lunch was absolutely fabulous and there is nothing better than sailing just off the shores of Los Cristianos, wind in your hair, sun shining down and feeling as free as the sea creatures.

Neptune Sea Company offers excursions from Los Cristianos and Puerto Colon in Costa Adeje. You can book online via card or contact them to arrange other options. It is really important to book up with a long established and reputable company as safety is important at all times. Los Cristianos Town

What I really like about this location is the diversity of what it offers. It has two beautiful golden sandy beaches, a harbour with constant activity of ferries and a small ‘old style’ cobbled street section of shops, cafes and restaurants to add to the charm. A whole host of other bars and restaurants to line the shores, heading towards Playa De Las Americas.

A few minutes walk from the beach and heading towards to central bus (Guagua) station, you will find a beautiful church. This symbolic building is a central focus for many fiestas and religious occasions and acts at bringing locals together to celebrate some famous days throughout the year.

Night Life

Although Los Cristianos is a little more laid back and not as lively as the neighbouring resorts, it still offers a fair share of good bars, fish restaurants and an array of good places to eat. A popular choice amongst the British tourists is Taylors Lounge bar where you can get traditional English food and night entertainment. Situated in Avenida San Fransisco, it also offers a good breakfast with daily newspapers to read for the morning chill out time.

There are plenty of other bars with nightlife and tribute acts so you will not be short of entertainment.

Whatever your reason for wanting to visit Los Cristianos, you can be sure you will have plenty of beach walks to Playa Las Americas. You can visit the local market on a Sunday or chill out in one of the cafes for a coffee and cake. A great time to visit is March/April each year where you will get to experience their own Carnival which offers a fun and exciting display of dancing, costumes, floats and more.
