Dolphins & Whales With Neptune Sea Company

An invitation from Neptune Sea Company was just the ticket for an excursion to see the dolphins & whales on the Peter Pan, authentic Portugues Goleta. I must confess, I am not the best where water is involved but I wanted to experience something a little different. The weather started a bit dull this day but this did not dampen my spirits. It was still warm and I had faith that the sun would come out at some point.

Heading over to Los Cristianos harbour, Maureen (my sister) and me were one of the first people to arrive, ready for the sailing time of 10.00am. I must say, we were looking forward to it and I just hoped that we would get to see the dolphins. Who could not love these sweet creatures!

On time, off we sailed out of the harbour and headed a little way up the coast. We were introduced to the crew Captain Emilio, Skipper Fabrizio and Ralph. It was easy to hear the instructions as Ralph took to the microphone to speak in a few different languages and I have to add, his English was very good. ( I am sure his Italian and German was just as good).

After the safety talks and introductions, Fabrizio and Ralph set to work, putting up the sails on the magnificent Goleta and we were off! My nerves suddenly disappeared as I felt totally safe with these 3 guys mastering this vessel. Soon into the trip, I realised that the crew knew their stuff!

One of the things that I liked about this trip (apart from the really tasty Sangria they made and gave us) was the information that Ralph told us before we got sight of any dolphins or whales. The facts which educated us were interesting and what came across throughout the trip was that these guys really cared about the sea life.

Our trip was for 3 hours and, to be honest, this is a good length of time (as you do not know how you will react to the sea for sickness). Luckily on my trip, we were all perfectly fine. The sea was not too choppy so it all went well.

Lunch was now served and I didn’t expect too much as I have been on other excursions so you need to understand that it is a light lunch. I have to say, I was impressed again and the food was simple but nice. Rice, Chicken Leg, Salad, Bread & Fruit. Soft drinks available so it was very good. To be fair to Neptune Sea Company, it was much better than I ate on other excursions in Tenerife and Turkey (or refused to eat should I say). Well done for exceeding my expectations on this one!

We had spectacular views of Los Cristianos and in the backdrop of it all was the famous Mount Teide.

It was so peaceful out at sea, passing the other boats and looking back to see this island in a different light and perspective. I felt free, happy and excited. I never expected to feel so comfortable aboard this vessel and it was the best feeling ever.

Well, the sun was shining and we got our first glimpse of the whales and dolphins. How mighty they looked swimming in families and so free in the magnificent sea. This is how it should be and this was what real sea life was all about. I just hate to see such wonderful creatures in tanks and performing tricks like clowns in a circus. It’s just not natural and what is more, the crew loved this even more. Their passion for the sea and wildlife was clearly demonstrated to everyone and their love for the creatures shone through.

After lunch and photograph opportunities, it was a time for anyone who wanted to take the plunge and jump in to cool down. You might have guessed that I opted out of this one but the people that jumped in, they had a great time. Take your swimwear and a towel with you if you want to have the full experience.

We headed back and I have to say, it was a fabulous day with Neptune Sea Company.

What I will say from experience about Tenerife is that if you are looking to book an excursion, there are a lot of companies offering these trips. Always check them out and go with a company that has the safety checks. You can find out more about Neptune Sea Company en.barcostenerife.com

Big ‘thank you/muchas gracias’ to Manuel who organised this memorable experience for me and his hospitality and knowledge was much appreciated.

Hopefully, this offered you a taster of what this excursion entails and if you are looking to see the dolphins and whales, try it with Neptune Sea Company and experience the Peter Pan way. If you do not want to board the Goleta, check out the Neptuno or Fishing experience.

      Hello Michelle,

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and for the lovely comments which you have made. It is a great way to make memories by attending excursions or trips out. You will not feel alone on the Peter Pan excursion as the crew will keep you laughing! If you want to book direct, go to their website http://www.barcostenerife.com and you will get 10% off the normal price. Worth it and that way, you will ensure you will make the trip this time. You can look at their other boat Shogun which leaves from Puerto Colon. Peter Pan leaves from Los Cristianos but I think they collect you from your hotel. Don’t forget your camera or phone, make memories you can keep x

Right now it appears like WordPress is the best blogging platform available right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
